An important thing to remember is the sequester is not the end of the world. It’s about 50% taxes and 50% spending cuts. There are certain segments of the Democratic coalition–particularly unions–that hate the sequester, but just last month those same folks were willing to sacrifice our Social Security benefits to avoid the sequester. The unions need to (re)learn that if they don’t have non-union workers’ backs, we’re not going to have theirs.

It’s more suited to trolls in comment boxes than in a post from someone with Hickey’s credentials. Using that kind of rhetoric is best left to people who don’t care anything about credibility and rallying support from reasonable and responsible people.

If Hickey is going to start calling Republicans terrorists, he better be willing to take a good hard look in the mirror.

They did this during the Clinton administration, holding the budget hostage and threatening to destroy the country if Clinton didn’t wipe out our poverty relief programs (general assistance welfare and AFDC). Clinton obeyed, and this generation of progressives responded with a resounding yawn of indifference. Who didn’t know that wiping out welfare (and censoring the consequences out of media) was a necessary first step toward wiping out Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid?
