And, of course, the problem with privatizing government services for profit is that there are people who need those services, whom it is not and never will be profitable to serve. It's bad enough when the private sector does make a profit for delivering services, because the pattern is that they (a) over promise in order to land the government contract to deliver services, and then proceed to (b) overcharge for delivery of services and (c) underserve the communities in in question.

When it comes to the poor, the near-poor, the working-poor, etc., the profit margin in slim to none. From a purely profit-oriented perspective, there's no point in bothering. That leaves millions pretty much out in the cold on everything from health care to education.

I guess the difference between conservatives and progressives is that conservatives don't much care. Conservative economist Tyler Cohen summed the conservative position pretty well:

Breathe deeply and try to summon your inner peace before reading this description, from economist Tyler Cowen, of what conservatives and libertarians should put in health care policy. You're going to need every drop of calm and sanity you can muster.

2. A rejection of health care egalitarianism, namely a recognition that the wealthy will purchase more and better health care than the poor. Trying to equalize health care consumption hurts the poor, since most feasible policies to do this take away cash from the poor, either directly or through the operation of tax incidence. We need to accept the principle that sometimes poor people will die just because they are poor. Some of you don’t like the sound of that, but we already let the wealthy enjoy all sorts of other goods — most importantly status — which lengthen their lives and which the poor enjoy to a much lesser degree. We shouldn’t screw up our health care institutions by being determined to fight inegalitarian principles for one very select set of factors which determine health care outcomes.

I'm going to repeat that: "We need to accept the principle that sometimes poor people will die just because they are poor."

It is disgusting that this lazy, incompetent,self-serving, mean and hate driven congress is holding office.
If it is the TRUE reflection of the American people, shame on you. Shame on the sanctimonious who find vindication of there twisted biblical quotes by taking refuge into their houses of worship on Sundays. Shame on your ignorance, shame on you for voting these miscreants in office based on uncritical acceptance of there rhetoric of lies and hate. SHAME, SHANE,SHAME!
