This is a correction to my comment directed to the President, the first paragraph of which should have read:

Do not give in on the Social Security benefits which account for 90 percent of the 40 percent of recipients who, if the chained CPI is installed, will be hard pressed to survive with the security and quality of basic living they have been promised and earned during their working lives.

Dear President Obama:

Do not give in on the Social Security benefits which account for 90 percent of the 40 percent of recipients who cannot survive with the security and quality of basic living they have been promised and earned during their working lives.

In particular, the idea of the chained CPI is almost tantamount to a form of genocide for the millions of elderly who would be forced to literally eat cat food in the worst cases as a result of the cruel effects of the CPI.

We voted for you, Mr. President, on your promise that you would never allow such inhumane political criminality to befall us.

Not keeping your promise will have dire consequences--of that you can be dead sure.

Thank you,

    Bill Bryan

President Obama doesn't need to make this bad deal that would hurt seniors and the disabled. A new CNN poll shows that by a margin of 53% to 27% the American people would blame Congressional Republicans rather than the President if the "fiscal cliff" talks fail. The pressure is on the Republicans, and, with popular opinion in his favor, President Obama has only to wait until the Republicans have to cave. Nothing about this makes sense, except, of course, for the money in politics.

I’m ashamed of my own party President Obama who is backstabbing the constituents who trusted him and voted him in office. He is a Benedict Arnold to the poor and middleclass by sacrificing COLA , a very important raise for social security recipients, just to satisfy the richest of the rich ego’s. A sorry development for the less fortunate in the U.S.

Great Progressive talk. But please describe to me the "realpolitik" influence the Progressive Caucus has. When they stand united, does it mean anything? will it change the vote? anybody know?
