We thought that we could trust Obama even though he is not a progressive. We thought we could take his word that he would raise taxes on those earning above $250K, and that he wouldn’t cut Social Security, Medicare or Medicade benefits. He has billions in military spending available to cut, including the millions that are now slated to building bases overseas. It’s beginning to look like he’s the Grinch who stole Christmas. Either this is what he really wanted to do all along, but just needed Republican proding; or he simply has no guts and would rather betray the people who put him into office than stand up to the ultra right wingers

All of your suggestions reduce the deficit. They do not make Social Security a dime more viable. In fact, to the extent that your solutions reduce jobs, the solutions you propose may hurt Social Security.

Social Security contributed $103 billion to the deficit for the Payroll Tax Holiday. By law, Social Security does add to the deficit. What you mean is that Social Security revenue and expense doesn’t count toward the deficit. These are very different things.

Meanwhile, as retirees are shouting, government quietly cuts away at Social Security Disability (disabled former workers). America (including progressive media) responds with a yawn of indifference. During the span of a single generation, government already cut General Assistance (welfare) down to zero, and “reformed” AFDC right out of existence. Everything from homeless shelters to education, parks to science, has been cut to the bone, with all of that money redistributed upward. This Great Bank Robbery of the US has got to be brought to an end.
