Stop trying to make the American middle class pay for the failure, incompetence and corruption of supply side/trickle down economics. Public health, safety and welfare, consumer rights and labor rights, are, jointly and severally, more important than corporate profits and CEO salaries and bonuses.

I have paid into social security all my adult life and I don’t believe that any congressional decision should take away the money I personally contributed to this retirement fund. Many people just like me depend solely on this retirement fund and don’t appreciate it when our congressional leaders would choose to deny us while keeping all the benefits that WE also pay for. These people are suppose to be our represenatives, not our grim reaper.

Social Security does not contribute one cent to the National debt. I paid all my working life into the system — I had nothing to do with the financial breakdown of the economy and the ballooning of the debt (caused by Bush tax cuts and two unfunded wars and the incalculable greed of Wall Street. I am 68 years old and depend on Social Security alone == I cannot get by on a lowered Cost of living increase. Leave Social Security alone.

I live on Social Security along — I am 68 and am disabled. I cannot work to supplement my income. I depend totally on having a decent cost of living increase each year. Don’t negotiate to placate the Republicans by lowering the COLA especially when it doesn’t add one cent to the deficit.

Do NOT agree to any deal that changes the formula for cost of living increases in Social Security. Seniors are already on a fixed income and they need to be assured that their income will keep pace with their expenses. They earned it and they’ve paid for it. I want that same security in 10-15 years when I retire. Do the right thing.
