Kind of hard to get stirred up about this. What the rich are doing to the middle class now is simply what the middle class already did to the poor. Predictable and, indeed, predicted. Did anyone not know that wiping out our poverty relief (welfare) was a necessary first step toward ending Social Security? And consider Bill Clinton's success in taking an ax to Social Security Disability in the 1990s, which resulted in an outburst of yawning/apathy by today's liberals (policies with disastrous consequences for too many, and which were finally reversed when President Obama took office). The public reaction (or lack thereof) to ending poverty relief and slashing Disability benefits and programs would set the course of action for dismantling Social Security retirement. The middle class might grumble, but VERY few of the middle class are willing to get out of their easy chairs to take a stand, requiring govt to rule according to the will of the people. The most important thing today is to continue to pander to the middle class, keeping them pacified, and our media works hard at doing this.
