What exactly is "chained-CPI" - and how does it work?
How is it calculated, and how is that different from the current system?

Bowles Simpson is nicknamed BS, even by the same folks who pay these guys $40k a speech - each, and that $40k is about three times what a Soc Sec beneficiary gets in an entire year.

The elite economics - one evening speech is worth three years of earned benefits by people mostly too old or too sick to work.

P.S. Has anyone noticed the increased number of new commentators on progressive sites, writers who are totally in love with low taxes for the rich. Someone told me that you can get paid well to pretend to be an average person and make comments to counter "enemies of the free market." Would a rich power broker spend money on such a project? That seems as unlikely as one guy giving $10 million to help Romney win.

In reply to Howard R. Lowe. I don't believe you. IF you are a WWII and Korean vet as you claim, you at this point in your life must be at least 83 years old (I'm giving you the benefit of signing up for WWII in 1945, at 18 years old). Are you not receiving Social Security benefits now? And the Simpson/Bowles Commission never issued any findings and/or reccommendations. They failed to agree about any, and did not issue a report.

Stop watching Faux (Fox) News. Everything that you mention is demonstrably false, with the exception of your service record. Maybe that's why you have TPSD (Tea Party Stress Disorder).
Do you mean to tell me that you have refused to take any benefits from the SSA because you are so much against it's 70 year "Ponzi scheme"? If you haven't refused those benefits, then you are the one to be called duplicitous.

Howard

WWII and Korea; probably about 85 and retired military; retired about 40 and probably went to work in a defense related industry; hence the 35 years in SS. You are likely what is known as a double dipper; can't believe you knock SS since it has probably rewarded you well; not well educated enough to keep from getting your talking points from Rush and Bill.

I carefully read your list of cons re Simpson-Bowles recommendations. As a retired businessman I disagree with many of your items - in fact too many to refute in a small space. Why are you distorting the Commision's findings and recommendations.
Lastly - Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme - My wife and I paid into the system - each for over 35 years - the Trust Fund was a an out and out fabricatiion, a lie - Congress took the money, gave the Fund notes. None of which can ever be repaid. I call this a Ponzi Scheme - Maddof went to prison for the same kind of gimmick.
Knowledgeable Americans are sick and tired of being lied to by politicians who create class warfare. They are destroying our once great nation. I'm a WWII & Korean vet, and am well-educated.
